KIRSTY FARNFIELD
Kirsty is a British Horse Society trained instructor, specialising in
dressage and stablemanagement. Based in the north east of England, she has
spent time working in various areas of the equine industry, including riding
schools, livery stables, studs, racing yards, reschooling ex racehorses,
breaking and schooling riding horses and ponies, teaching BHSAI students and
other pupils of all ages.
She has also had the oppurtunity to work with some top names in UK
equestrianism, including top dressage rider Sylvia Richardson and olympic
gold medalist event rider, Karen Dixon MBE.
Kirsty also trained as a Farrier, obtaining a first diploma in pre-farriery
at Distinction level from Warwickshire College of Agriculture, one of only
two students to do so in that year, but also made history by becoming the
first girl to win the "Best overall student" award for the course. She has
had the oppurtunity to spend time with and gain more experience from some
top UK Farriers, including John Uttley, Wayne Upton, Brian and Ian Tweddall,
Tim Rushton, and world famous Simon Curtis FWCF, based in Newmarket.
Kirsty is very interested in researching new and alternative training
techiniques, but does not advocate any one in particular, instead working on
the basis of assessing each horse as an individual and going from there as
to what the best course of action is - often combining a series of different
training techniques appropriate to the situation. Monty Roberts, Pat
Parelli, clicker training and traditional English backing techniques are
all considered, with the most important aspect always being that the horse
should want to learn and never be forced
